South Piedmont Community College is One Newer Customer
Founded in the early 1960’s South Piedmont Community College (SPCC) is one of 58 community colleges in North Carolina and serves students at campuses in Polkton, Wadesboro and Monroe. SPCC also is Sunshine’s newest customer in the Carolinas, an area that has been served by the company since 2010.
According to Carolinas Operations Manager Cy Angelos, who has been with Sunshine since 2008, the new SPCC contract includes janitorial work at three campuses and the dedication of 16 employees.
“We’ve built a strong ‘family’ feeling with the college,” he said, “they know they can call us for anything at any time.”
Angelos says that in addition to routine janitorial duties, his team handles window and pressure cleaning as needed and is particularly busy during events season. They take care of set and tear down, carpet cleaning and other responsibilities around graduations, and events, as well as other special celebrations and workshops. His team is busy with events at the new administration building in Monroe and is preparing for support around a major remodeling project slated for the Monroe campus.
“Working with the team at Sunshine has been a pleasure this past year,” said Tommy Suggs, Executive Director of Facilities for the College. “I never hear a ‘no’ from any request I have, and they all work hard to keep our campuses sparking clean and to cater to our unique needs. They are always willing to help, a great group to work with, and Cy is always responsive.”
Taking the new duties at the college in stride, Angelos explains that his years of operations experience has prepared him well for any challenge.
“Whether it’s an airport or a college,” he explained, “we take the customer’s scope of work and develop schedules, staffing and procedures to handle their unique needs. We work around their schedules, such as night classes and events.”
The Carolina team is no stranger to complex and large jobs, having worked for the Charlotte International Airport, the sixth largest in the country, for 12 years. Other customers in the area include the Columbia Metropolitan Airport, Wilson Air, the City of Charlotte, Spectrum Center of Charlotte and the Charlotte Convention Center, among others.
This area holds great promise for Sunshine, adds Angelos, as one of the fastest growing communities in the country. “There is great opportunity for growth here,” said the resident of Rock Hill, South Carolina, who emphasized, “We approach everything as a team. There’s nothing we won’t do for our customers, and they know that.”
